Statecraft is The Best Tool I’ve Ever Used in a Classroom
The game is going to take its own turn depending on the students. It can go in any direction. By being flexible and able to teach different lessons as the game develops I can get the real benefits and capitalize on teachable moments.
Statecraft “Makes Learning Sticky” & Adds Fun in Online Classes
Getting kids engaged in ideas is important. I don’t want kids to be passive receptacles of knowledge that they sit back in a test and two or three weeks later they promptly forget and never use [the information] again. Statecraft helps make learning sticky. I’ll use it again.
Worth It: Sim Creates Emotional Connections to Course Material
I could see students enjoyed the simulation and they did engage with their peers. Many of them have told me, “Now we understand how hard it is to achieve cooperation in foreign policy and international relations.”

Real World Application
Students experience domestic and global politics on a personal level so they understand and absorb your course material much better. They have more than enough resources and opportunities during the game play to make mistakes, learn from them and ultimately succeed in the simulation and class. This gives them a chance to learn important life lessons in a low-stakes environment and later apply their experience to truly important situations like the workplace.
- More engagement inside and outside of class
- Students develop career skills like leadership that make them more employable
- Simulations are used in college classes and corporate training
